RJC Bullet Proof Head Gasket Kit
The most common problem with these cars is blowing head gaskets. The reason very simply is there are not enough head bolts to retain the head adequately under the extreme cylinder pressures that
our Buicks produce.
There are many type of head gaskets that try to eliminate this problem. Under extreme cylinder pressure, three things can happen, the head can lift stretching the head bolts, the head can deflect
or the block can deflect. In each case as soon as combustion gasses are blown by the fire ring the paper or graphite backing gets whittled away. This continues until there is no support for the fire ring the fire ring blows
out. Even the wire lock style gaskets are susceptible to this flaw.
The factory GM 100% steel shim gaskets are the toughest most indestructible gaskets on the market today. The tricky part about these gaskets is sealing them at the water jackets.
Jay Carter worked closely with the engineers from General Electric to develop a sealer for this specific application. The factory GM steel shim head gaskets must be modified to work properly with this sealer. The application of this sealer is also critical. The engineers at RJC Racing combined all of these premium materials and procedures and made them available in a kit with detailed instructions. The "Bullet Proof Head Gasket Kit" just flat works. If installed properly they will hold up under the most extreme conditions. We have experienced that
even if the head lifts under extreme load the memory in the stamped ribs combined with the adhesion properties of the GE silicon keeps the gasket from leaking. If you ever do lift the head, usually all that is required is a
retorque on the head bolts and your up and running for the next round.
News flash "GM steel shim gaskets discontinued from GM". To remedy this problem RJC has designed a similar gasket to take the place of these GM steel shim gaskets.
The new RJC Stainless steel shim head gaskets look very similar to the GM gaskets. We took all of the best attributes from the the GM gaskets and added some major improvements. #1 We made our gaskets from 304 Stainless
Steel. This material is over 3 times as tough as the mild steel the GM gaskets are made from. This grade of stainless holds a better memory and is more malleable. This means the gasket will crush better and seal better. #2
We made the gaskets out of .040 thick material. This is over twice as thick as the GM gaskets. This means you no longer have to stack 2 gaskets to achieve stock 87 gasket thickness. This also means that the gaskets will be
considerably more durable, easier to install and less likely to leak water or fail completely. #3 We now have two different thickness of gaskets. The Second gasket we designed is made from .017 thick 304 Stainless Steel this
gasket will allow you to increase your compression ratio approximately one half a point. (from 8.5:1 to 9:1) this aids in spool up, drivability and does not seem to limit maximum attainable boost pressure. #4 This new design
is the ultimate in stock block head gasket technology. We have put allot of time engineering these and it shows in the performance of these gaskets.
